East Lancs care home blasted for a second time

A CARE home has been rapped by a watchdog for the second time this year after failing to make improvements.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said some of the failings at Lake View Nursing Home in Chorley Road, Withnell, were having a ‘major impact’ on residents.

In April, concerns were raised about the safety of the premises and staff shortages. A warning notice was issued to the provider. But the CQC said Lake View had still not addressed the problems when inspectors returned in June.

The regulator added: “There was no hot water to the showers in six rooms since at least the beginning of 2014. Basic repairs had not been undertaken. Most of the communal bathrooms had one or two tiles missing under the sinks, cobwebs were visible in many areas of the home. A nightdress was on path area to the rear of the home, another was on a sloped roof space.”

A lounge was left unattended on three occasions. The home had also failed to notify the CQC of an accident.

The 48-bed home has seen three managerial changes in six months. If improvements are not made, the regulator can restrict or suspend services or issue a fine.

The Embrace Group, which runs the home, said: “We are working closely with the CQC and other authorities and have put an action plan in place to address the areas raised in the regulator’s report.”
