LANCASHIRE Police has started a ‘week of action’ to combat anti-social driving in the Ribble Valley.

The initiative, called Operation Speed Dial, started yesterday and will see both uniformed and plain clothed officers cracking down on those who are found to be driving dangerously in and around Longridge.

During May and June this year there were 19 reports of anti-social driving in Longridge, compared to seven reports during the same period in 2013.

The police has said that the issue of anti-social driving has also been raised by the local community at recent PACT meetings.

Examples of anti-social driving can include speeding, tailgating, mobile phone use, inconsiderate driving and drink driving.

PCSO Ben Higham from Longridge Neighbourhood Poling Team said: “The increasing number of incidents involving anti-social driving was brought to the attention of the Neighbourhood Policing Team at recent PACT meetings and I hope this operation will help to ease those concerns and produce effective results in tackling anti-social driving.”
