IT was a case of ‘onesie for the money, two for the show’ when hundreds of walkers paraded across East Lancashire in their favourite leisurewear.

From superheroes to jungle beasts, they swarmed through Rawtenstall as Rossendale Hospice promoted its first ‘Onesie Walk’ yesterday.

And hospice bosses have paid tribute to the ability of all hardy trekkers who left their pride to one side and clambered up Haslingden Old Road in sweltering temperatures.

Comic and Radio Lancashire DJ Ted Robbins, who lives in Crawshawbooth, was on hand to entertain the crowds at the official start, and staff from Rossendale Leisure Trust helped entrants to prepare for the event with a zumba workout.

Hospice marketing manager Lisa Vincent said: “It was just wonderful to see all the families getting together to take part.

“We had walkers from all over the valley and people joining us from Blackburn and even Clitheroe.

“This is the first time we have ever staged a mass event like this, because we are not a huge organisation and depend a lot on volunteers.

“But after seeing what happened yesterday, I don’t see how we can’t do something similar next year, maybe with a slightly different twist.”

The event sponsors, Haslingden-based Winfield, entered a team of walkers donning their own line of ‘outrageous’ onesies over the three-mile course.

And fellow promoters The Whitaker, the Rawtenstall-based museum, staged a host of fun activities either side of the procession which ended with funnyman Ted presenting medals to the finishers.
