DELAYS on the Grane Road are set to continue for up to a month while engineers pursue sewer and road surface repairs.

The B62321, a key link between Guide in Blackburn and Rossendale and the M66 to Manchester, has had a lane closed for two weeks near to the Duke of Wellington pub in Haslingden.

Following investigations into a sewer collapse by Lancashire County Council and United Utilities engineers, the temporary traffic lights at the spot are set to stay in place for another four weeks.

While some drainage damage has been identified, they are still uncertain over any ‘definitive cause for the defect’ and investigations are continuing.

A United Utilities spokesman said: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience or delays the traffic management on Grane Road is causing commuters.

“It’s a challenging job, with a number of pipes deep underground.

“Although it is difficult to give an accurate completion date at this stage, the road could remain under traffic management for a month.

“We will continue to work closely with the county council to identify the source of what is causing the damage to the road.”

There are currently no plans to close the road completely.
