Lancashire brigade’s revamp for training centre
2:33pm Tuesday 8th July 2014 in News
FIRE chiefs have outlined the improvements which need to be made to the county brigade’s training centre until a final decision can be made regarding a headquarters relocation.
Earlier this year the Lancashire Telegraph revealed that the service’s bosses had opted to delay moving their HQ from Fulwood, near Preston, to the training centre site at Euxton, near Chorley.
The move was destined to save the county brigade around £700,000 – but came with a warning that upgrades would be required at the Euxton site.
And now members of the fire authority’s resources committee have been informed that a raft of measures are planned in the coming months.
Roofing works are pencilled in for Lancaster House and other minor alterations to Midgeley House and Moira’s Rest on site, alongside drainage improvements and resurfacing work to the drill yard.
Other repairs are scheduled to the water and hydrant main, due to leaks from old asbestos-lined piping.
The operation will also separate the hydrant and drinking water supply to help to reduce legionella risks.
And a back-up generator will be provided to safeguard the running of the site and internal roads will also be upgraded following demolition works on-site.
