A CAREERS event will encourage pupils from across East Lancashire to learn more about jobs in the world of science today.

The event at St Mary’s College, Blackburn will include 147 students and science teachers from St Augustine’s, Blessed Trinity, St Bede’s, Witton Park, Bowland, Darwen Vale and Mount Carmel.

The morning is aimed at high flying science students who may be considering a career in the science, technology, engineering and maths, or STEM specialisms, which are currently experiencing recruitment shortages.

Guest speakers will be giving talks on biochemistry, environmental-ocean science, astrophysics and biology.

St Mary's College's head of science, maths and computing Stephen Kirk said: “Our aim is to inspire more students to consider courses and careers in STEM subjects. We are extending this invitation to a range of schools in the area and we anticipate 100 to 150 students will be in attendance.”
