THE memorial service celebrating the life of former council boss Steve Weaver will take place at Blackburn Cathedral on Monday.

The father-of-three, who was instrumental in creating the all-purpose authority of Blackburn with Darwen, was killed when he was knocked off his bike in a hit-and-run in the south of France.

The 64-year-old grandfather-of-three, formerly chief executive of Blackpool Council, was leaving Veaux when the accident happened on May 28.

Mr Weaver’s ex-wife Ann went to France for a cremation ceremony on June 3.

The service will take place at 12.30 pm.

Donations to Save the Children or Oxfam are requested in lieu of flowers.

A police search is continuing to trace the driver, who fled the scene.
