A ROAD was closed for an hour after a woman became trapped after the car she was in collided with a bollard.

Fire crews from Bacup and Rochdale attended the scene in Market Street, Whitworth, on Tuesday after receiving reports of the incident involving three people shortly after 5.30pm.

The driver of the Vauxhall Astra was attended to by a rapid response paramedic from the North West Ambulance Service and an off-duty paramedic.

The rear seat passenger suffered minor facial injuries.

Watch manager, Damian Hartley, said: “The driver and rear seat passenger had already made their own way out of the vehicle.

“The fire service used cutting and spreading equipment to remove a door to enable easy access to the casualty and then removed the roof to ensure the casualty could be carried out on a long board.

“She was conveyed to hospital by ambulance with a suspected back injury.

“The rear seat passenger suffered minor facial injuries and the driver was treated for shock.”
