ANGRY residents of a Darwen estate have hit out at the state of a park which is ‘unusable’ because of uncut grass.

The park area in the middle of the Anchor Estate, accessed by a ginnel from Anchor Avenue, has become overgrown.

And locals say glass and other debris left by ‘anti-social’ youths that get covered over by the long grass make it a no go area for children who could make use of the play areas.

Resident Susanna Bolton said: “After all the money and the arguing over it, it’s a disgrace.

“The grass is 10 times higher than my little dog and I cannot let my grandchildren on there because the glass left there by the anti-social youths is hidden in the long grass.

“It is out of bounds for all of us and at this time of year we need it the most.

“All we get told is ‘Government cut backs’.

“We already cut the grass in front of our houses ourselves, what more do they want?”

Earcroft councillor Trevor Maxfield, who is also mayor of Darwen Town Council, said: “We have had problems on there for the past few years.

“What the solution is I really do not know to be honest but we don’t want to lose a facility for children in the area.

“I will have a word with the executive member Coun Jim Smith to see whether we can get in there and tidy it up.”

Blackburn with Darwen Council executive member for environment Coun Jim Smith said the area was due to be tidied up soon.

He said: “We are currently cutting grass in Darwen and are aiming to get this area in Anchor Park cut as soon as possible.”

He added: “This is the peak rapid growing season for grass and the weather conditions at the moment have encouraged the growth.”

Why does everyone want the council to do everything for them. Organise yourselves and do a community clean up and work together to make this amenity available to your kids. The council cant be expected to do everything! Who are these yobs that leave bottles etc lying around? Bet your bottom dollar they are local youths. Bet you all know who they are. Get your act together to stamp it out. Stop waiting for the council to come and 'wipe your a**es' for you.

Well said Malc.

The youths will definitely be local and I bet you a dollar that their parents are amongst those readily eager to complain about the mess!
Take responsibility for yourselves, it's your locality, so clean it up.

Yes , yes and yes .

I know two families who live on The Anchor . Both bought their houses .
They cannot escape . Trying to sell their houses is pointless .
Even though their houses are immaculate . Inside and outside .

No-one in their right minds would buy a house there at the moment .

Interestingly , I note that Trevor Maxfield , is the Councillor and Mayor !

I've never heard of him , nor have my friends .

Now - I am told that life has deteriorated since the pub reopened .
I have no data on this .

I am also told that the vermin responsible come from Birch Hall .
Again I have no data .

I welcome (polite) replies as always .
