A BLACKBURN bakery and sandwich shop’s bid to become a cafe has gone down badly with a neighbouring business over car parking concerns.

Blackburn with Darwen planning committee has been recommended to approve a request by David Baron to change the Wild Flower Bakery, Whalley New Road in Roe Lee into a cafe when it meets on Thursday.

Lisa Anne Swindlehurst, from a nearby newsagent's in Whalley New Road, has written to the council concerned about congestion resulting from any change.

She said: “I wish Mr Baron every success in his business, but the issue is really based on the parking; there just isn’t any around here.”

Officers have called for restricted opening times between 8am and 8pm and ground floor use only.

Their report said additional parking created by the cafe would be absorbed by the existing roads in the area.

It noted customers could use public transport to the nearby Ramsgreave and Wilpshire railway station and bus stops, or take advantage of the nearby Bull’s Head pub car park.
