RACE for Life organisers have said they were delighted with the turn out for today's Burnley Race for Life.

As hundreds of participants took to the course, a strong crowd of supporters and bystanders were able to cheer from the sidelines and stroll around stalls, which included face painting and refreshments.

The charity has said a big thankyou to everyone who took part and to their supporters.

Event manager Jennifer Ward said she was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the runners taking part.

She said: “Everyone is just up for it - what a wonderful atmosphere these incredible ladies have created for our event. I haven’t yet spoken to anyone who isn’t having a really good time and the fancy dress is incredible this year. Everyone has made such an effort.

“They are all unstoppable. It’s like the weather doesn’t even matter. As well as having fun they are supporting a really good cause and they are going to raise so much money for us.”

The race had attracted 1050 women and organisers were expecting to raise £55,000 from the event yesterday.

The Cancer Research UK fundraiser has become one of Burnley’s most popular annual events. Last year 1,110 women took part in the Burnley gathering and raised £53,830.
