A GROUP of youngsters are celebrating after cheering their way to two competition successes.

Cheer Valley cheerleaders celebrated after their youth and senior teams won in the Northern Classics Cheerleading competition.

Their junior team came third.

The competition took place at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on Saturday and featured 30 teams from across the UK.

Coach Sarah Holden said: “We are very proud and the girls have worked really hard.”

“The girls all thought it was fantastic and had a really good time.

“A lot of them were new to it but they enjoyed it and are now hooked.”

“I think they are looking forward to taking part in the next competition in Blackpool in November. A lot of parents came out to support us as well and were really proud of the children.

“There have been videos popping up all over Facebook. It was like one big family day out.”

Sarah has run Cheer Valley for six years and been coaching cheerleading for 12 years.

The cheerleaders range in age from six to 20 years, and train at Darwen Vale High School in Blackburn Road on Thursday nights.

Sarah said anyone was welcome to come down as long as they had spaces available in the age groups.

In the coming weeks, Sarah will be going on maternity leave, and two younger coaches will take over the group in her absence.

The club aims to take part in at least two competitions every year.
