HUNDREDS of British D-Day veterans have travelled to Normandy for a series of events marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

In total 17 heads of state, including the Queen, will travel to France today.

More than 650 ex-servicemen will also commemorate the invasion after returning to the area.

Yesterday, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall met old troops of the Glider Pilot Regiment at Pegasus Bridge, the first assault of the D-Day invasion.

And world leaders, including Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin, will arrive in Normandy today for the 70th anniversary.

An international ceremony will held be at Sword Beach, the easternmost of the five landing areas for Allied forces on D-Day.

What a wonderful cover of this event on the BBC. These great men and those who died also deserve our thanks for our freedom. It was so good to see so many still able to be appreciated for their service to us all. Thank you all so much.

What a shame they gave their lives defending your right to say that.
And my right to say I think you are scum for saying it.
What a sad little person you are.
