A DRIVER and his teenage passenger were taken to hospital after their car collided with five parked vehicles.

The man, in his late 20s, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital, along with the teenage girl, following the incident in Hermitage Street, Rishton, shortly after 8.10pm on Tuesday.

They did not suffer any serious injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road was closed for several hours after the Peugeot 206, which came to rest on its side, collided with the vehicles, leaving debris in the road.

The white Peugeot suffered major damage, along with a number of other parked cars.

A large crowd of residents and passers-by watched the clean-up operation which was supervised by two police officers.

The police spoke to the owners of the vehicles before leaving the scene.

A police spokesman said: “No arrests have been made at this time and we are currently speaking to the owners of the cars and to the two people in the Peugeot.

“We are also speaking to eye-witnesses and to local residents.

“If anyone has any further information, please contact Blackburn Police Station or call 101.

“The two people in the Peugeot did not suffer any serious injuries and were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital as a precaution.

“We are investigating whether it was driver error or a mechanical fault.”

Gary Smith, 34, from Rishton said: “It looks to have been quite a serious crash and the damage to the cars is really bad.

“It’s good that no-one was seriously hurt but it could have been so much worse. I feel for the owners of the parked cars.”

Sarah Harding, 28, from Accrington, said: “I was at my mate’s house and I just heard a bang and I looked out of the window.

“I saw what had happened and I ran down to street to see.

“It’s good that they are not hurt but it must have been a huge shock for them.”
