A TEACHER is calling on everyone in Burnley to take on cancer at a charity casino night later this month.

Lauren Fallows, 24, will transform Turf Moor into a Las Vegas casino in her bid to raise £4,000 for cancer charities.

Glamorous dresses and suave suits will be the order of the evening, which will include blackjack and poker tables and a roulette wheel.

Lauren, who teaches English at St Wilfred’s Academy in Blackburn, has organised the event in memory of her granddad Martin, who lost his battle with prostate cancer in 2000 at the age of 62.

Alongside her dad, John, she has put together the event and will donate the proceeds to Cancer Research UK and Prostate Cancer.

More than 30 businesses have signed up to support the event on June 27, which also includes an after-show party at Illuminati in Hargreaves Street. Lauren, who lives in Worsthorne, said: “I never expected this to get so big.

“My granddad’s death affected my dad and I quite a lot and I wanted to raise as much money as I could for charity.

“I thought that if I was going to do something it might as well be as big as possible.

“I can’t thank people enough really because I have been shown so much support.

“I can’t really believe how many people have said that they are coming.

“My fingers are crossed that everything will go well on the night and I even have a few surprises for everyone as well.

“I never thought in a million years that it would be as well supported as it is and I hope everyone will have a good night and we can raise a lot of money for charity.”

Tickets are £15 and include food and initial casino money.

Doors open at 7pm and gambling will begin at 7.30pm.

Burnley residents have also been called on to sign up for the Burnley v Cancer night and show their support on Twitter using the #BurnleyvCancer hashtag.
