Leading Audley councillor back on board

Blackburn Citizen: YUSUF JAN-VIRMANI YUSUF JAN-VIRMANI

AUDLEY councillor Yusuf Jan-Virmani has resumed his duties on Blackburn with Darwen council’s executive board after a six month break to sort out his family and business affairs.

The 58-year-old stood aside from his job in charge of neighbourhoods, housing and customer services just before Christmas last year to deal with personal problems.

Corporation Park representative Arshid Mahmood stepped up from his job as ‘lead member’ for the portfolio to take over on a temporary basis. Last night borough Labour leader Kate Hollern announced that following Thursday’s local elections Coun Jan-Virmani has been restored to his position.

Coun Jan-Virmani fled Idi Amin’s Uganda as a 16-year-old in 1972 and has been a councillor since 1994.

Coun Hollern said: “I am delighted to welcome Jan-Virmani back to his position on the executive board.”

Coun Jan-Virmani was unavailable for comment last night. The rest of the ruling Labour executive board remains unchanged.

His business skills have helped restore his family to the millionaire status it had in Africa. His family now own a chain of North-West garages including a service station on Accrington Road, and Jan’s Conference Centre, both Blackburn.

Great to have him back and a very hard working Councillor a very nice down to earth guy from Indian family fled from Uganda in the 1970s.
A rich self made millionaire who owns chains of petrol stations and a conference hall who has worked hard for the poor working class people in his Audley ward.

Err, not quite, it was someone who worked for him.

Why is LT rewriting history here?
As far as I'm aware, Idi Amin gave the Ugandan Asians 90 days to get out of the country, after he had a dream where God told him to do it. Although this wasn't his idea, as he only extended what Milton Obote had begun some years previously, as the Asians were seen to be 'making most of the money and contributing nothing to the country'. When the Asians were expelled, they were only allowed to take a limited amount of money with them, the rest of it being confiscated by the State.
Many returned to India or Pakistan but a few chose to exercise their rights, as Commonwealth citizens, to come to the UK, where many have gone on to become more than competent businessmen in their own rights and, as in this case, making a really positive input to the communities that, at first, were very hostile to them.
Although many were from tailoring or banking backgrounds, they took jobs in the mills, working long, hard hours to save up the money to buy their own homes, as this was to escape the clutches of unscrupulous landlords, who charged more rent, for up to 10 men sharing an house.
When the decline in the mills came, many used their redundancy money to set up their own businesses, often corner shops, enabling them to save money to bring other family members to the UK.
When you consider that many had held high office in the Ugandan administration, both for the British and after the coup that brought Amin to power, it's only natural that they would seek to go into politics here in the UK, where they took to it, like a duck to water.
When you consider that they were, to all intents and purposes, 'ethnically cleansed' from Uganda and faced hostility here, it made them even more determined to succeed in life, which has been shown here. Well done, I say!

Quite obviously, my humour is wasted upon you but, I'll ask you this..
Who is the true Englishman?
Anyone born in the county Palatine of Lancaster isn't, as they are subjects of a Germanic Royal Family, by Feudal Law, since 1351.
Many are of Norman, Anglo-Saxon, Dane, Roman and possibly Phoenician descent (if they live in Cornwall, - another Crown owned property - that traded with the Phonecians.)
More recently, Scottish and Welsh miners came here to work in the local pits, with Irish 'Navvies' before them, to dig the canals.

So, all in all, when you idiot savants of racists have deported all the foreigners, just whom is left?
In fact, would you be here, yourself?
I know that I won't and I take some comfort in that, as I will be amongst people that don't have your narrow view of things.
You do realise that, Christianity itself, is an alien religion to this country, so you can boot them out too.
It's going to be a bit lonely here, for the very few that are left. Them sheep are going to be getting a bit wary, I think; as I read in a letter from Vindolanda, - a Roman fort - that many men prefer the company of their sheep, to normal companionship.
So if you find yourself here, having made the cut; a shop selling Wellies might not be a bad idea, don't you think?

It Wasn't a joke I was refused on at least 3 occasions but on the 3rd occasion I was stopped by an asian on Shadsworth road and advised to go back at 2.00am when all the asian taxis were there. White were allowed £10 asians unlimited after midnight !! This man and is family have consistently exploited the various positions within the council to procure there own greed. They should have been thrown out of town years ago.
