THE main road between Bacup and Weir has been closed after an accident.

A Nissan Micra collided with a Land Rover Freelander in Plantation View just before 3pm, police said.

Officers found one of the drivers was in a little discomfort and so an ambulance was called, but the injuries are not thought to be serious.

Police have closed Burnley Road temporarily while the incident is investigated and the road is cleared.

Way too many accidents on here at the moment. Doesn't help when people park the way they do up Burnley Road when picking up their kids.

Couldn't agree more - they need to stop the pillocks parking all the way up the hill adjacent to the double white lines in middle of road. It would help if the teachers didn't park along the road too and used the car park that's available at the Weir Hotel instead. Also if the parents chose the school that was nearest to them instead of driving all the way from Bacup because they don't want their kids going to Thorn.

Yes it needs double yellows down BOTH side of the road all through Weir down past the school,I have lost track of how many near misses I have seen on a daily basis, because of parked cars

They say it wasnt that serious but yet the air ambulance was on the scene within 30mins of it happening and landed in the field opposite!

I travel up to northern school for my own personal reasons it's not because I didn't want to use thorn, no school is exclusive to children living next to it therefore have every right to be there regardless where they travel from. The point here is that drivers are parking in-considerately and making it more dangerous , where the drivers come from is irrelevant. ! Just saying.

They'll get the air ambulance out for any suspected back or head injury, no matter how minor - it's quicker to get to Blackburn or Preston than going by road.

Was this a good example of wasting money. If it was not a serious accident why close the road?

I walked past and the funny thing was there wasnt much damage to the ladies Land Rover but the poor man was being readied to be cut out of his Micra. The reports then say she was taken to hospital!! Wasting time.........or an insurance claim
