DEMOLITION work has begun on Blackburn’s Jubilee House as the Cathedral Quarter development continues.

The office building, built on the site of the former gas works, was the home of Blackburn with Darwen Council’s voluntary services and charity Nightsafe.

Once the ambitious project is completed, where Jubilee House currently stands will be the car park of the new adjacent hotel.

The work is the final stage of clearing the central area of the town centre for the construction of the £30million Cathedral Quarter.

Once completed, the complex will include two office blocks, a 56-bed Premier Inn hotel, clergy buildings, and a cloister garden.

Work is also well under way on the new £5million bus station at the bottom of Ainsworth Street.
