THEY may not have come from a galaxy far, far away but Star Wars fans turned out in Force to see their sci-fi heroes.

Darth Vader actor David Prowse was joined by Kenny Baker, who played R2-D2, and other characters from the hit movies at Turf Moor yesterday.

The Star Wars Fan Fun Day was organised by East Lancashire Hospice to raise funds for their centre in Park Lee Road, Blackburn.

Best friends 40-year-old Mark Gascoigne and 37-year-old Diane Walter had travelled from West Yorkshire to attend.

Mark said: “I’ve come to Burnley just for this. I’m a huge fan of conventions. This is my third this week and I’m just obsessed with the films.”

Husband and wife Star Wars fans Helen and Stephen Lyth came to Burnley from Manchester on Sunday night to attend a dinner with the stars.

Helen said: “It was the best night out ever. There we were sat on a table with Tim Rose who played admiral Ackbar in Return of the Jedi.”

Jeni and Callum Rigby, from Darwen, attended the event – a day after Star Wars day ‘May the Fourth’.

Jeni said: “It’s been a great day out and we were queuing up first thing this morning. It’s an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan and I was pleased that when the cast list for the new films was revealed some original cast members were included.”

Callum added: “I’m looking forward to the new films, but nothing will match the originals.”
