HEALTH workers said a new scheme to offer free vitamin D supplements will provide a huge health benefit to East Lancashire.

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust is set to provide tablets to all children under the age of six, as well as pregnant, postnatal and breastfeeding women. Those on low incomes will also be offered milk, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Halima Laheri of the trust, said: “Throughout the UK there is a high vitamin D deficiency among adults and children. The Healthy Start Vitamin Scheme is a great way for anyone in the higher risk groups to get access to vitamins that are essential for strong bone development and the absorption of calcium.”

Unbelievable. More taxpayers money up the spout.

Vitamin D is available for free. You get it from exposure to sunlight. The only people who don't get enough are those who cover themselves from head to toe.

Adults for religious reasons and kids because their parents have believed the hype about a drop of sunlight causing instant death from skin cancer.

So what do we do? Give out more 'free' stuff that you and I are paying for.
