Blackburn Queen visit will bring £1m boost for economy

Blackburn Citizen: Blackburn Queen visit will bring £1m boost for economy Blackburn Queen visit will bring £1m boost for economy

BLACKBURN town centre will see an economic uplift as a result of the royal visit.

It is estimated that the local economy will be boosted by around £1 million thanks to thousands of extra visitors coming to the town on the day and then returning in the future.

The local business community in Blackburn has welcomed the special visit and worked alongside Blackburn with Darwen Council to make the most of the opportunities which it will provide.

David Smith, commercial manager of Blackburn with Darwen Markets, said: “We are expecting Blackburn Market to be exceptionally busy on the day the Queen is visiting, and we are gearing up for that.

“We are opening the doors from 7.30am and there will be events and activities for all the family taking place throughout the day.

“I think there are some people in the borough and from neighbouring towns who still haven’t visited our fantastic market since it moved from its former site and it would be wonderful to welcome them and be able to showcase what I believe to be one of the best markets in the region.”

I can remember when I was a little snotty lad back in the 50's when HM the Queen came to Darwen and landed at Darwen Railway Station when there was an uproar about having a new Ladies toilet built on the station in case HerMag wanted to spend a penny, we all lined up outside Henry Whalleys waving flags when all these posh cars went by. Anyway after all these years I'm now a pensioner, HM the Queen is still out and about around this country and has served with honour and respect and long may she go on, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, from a Royalist

What a load of B ollocks How much is the police operation costing
Last time she came about 40 people stood around the station , which was closed for 4 hours with all the inconvenience this causes Tomorrow she and her husband will be in and out out as quick as they can , but we have paid for all the extra painting and litter/ clearing and the Masses that will salute her from the Tables outside the Postal Order at 10:00am .
Me I will be at work earning a a crust and paying this drain on society and her family . The rest of the civilized world exists without a Monarch and exist as Citizens with a Bill of Rights , and no Subjects who are bound by a an ancient constitution like the Magna Carta . Why are we paying for these people to able maintain a lifestyle that should have gone over 100 years ago

You have absolutely no idea. 10 - 15 thousand people approximately watch Changing of the Guard alone, on a daily basis.
Add Windsor Castle, etc etc it's the only decent industry this country has left. Now belt up you sorry excuse, what have you acheived for this country that makes you so special... Urn I'm guessing nothing.

So who is your alternative? Tony Blair? Obama? any member of of the Coops regional boards who trouser £40/50k for running a once great enterprise into the ground?
I guess the Crystal Methodist would be your choice assuming he could wriggle out of his legal difficulties.

Love your reply people are to thick to work out that this country makes billions of pounds a year out of the monarchy. All they see is how much it costs not what it makes. Our monarchy is the envy of the world I see Australia is changing its mind on becoming a republic. The big problem with this country people are bitter and twisted if anyone has more than themselves instead of getting off their backsides and doing something about it they just sl ag people off.
