Plans set for Royal route in Blackburn on Maundy Thursday

THOUSANDS of well-wishers from all over East Lancashire will line the streets of Blackburn when the Queen visits next week.

The route Her Majesty and Prince Philip will take through the town has been announced, and drivers have been warned to expect delays and diversions.

The royals will be making their way by car to Blackburn Cathedral for the special Maundy Thursday service from 10.30am where they will hand out Maundy Money to people from across Lancashire.

They will arrive at Blackburn railway station, and will be driven along Railway Road, down Church Street, and onto Darwen Street.

Large barriers will be put in place to allow crowds to line the whole of the route and show their support.

Residents are being warned to expect the town centre to be very busy on the day.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has advised that limited, well-signposted diversions and road closures will be in place between 6am and 1pm.

The diversion will take traffic via St Peter Street, Byrom Street, Montague Street, and Barbara Castle Way.

There will also be a diversion in place along Barton Street, Blakey Moor, Alma Street, and Barbara Castle Way. Between 6pm and 1pm shoppers are asked to use Ainsworth Street entrance to access The Mall car park.

There will also be some disruption to public transport, and slight changes to services have been agreed with all public transport providers, who will be keeping customers informed.

Council officials have said that the town will be operating as usual following the departure of the royal party when they make their way to Ewood Park for a reception.

Barriers will be taken down, diversions removed and the roads around the cathedral will be reopened.

A council spokeswoman said: “People have been more than happy to accommodate the changes because they see how it’s such a good thing having the Queen in town.”

..and as the Royal party limousine rolls sedately down Railway Road, a taxi joins them from Morrisons..

What?

It happened before, when Condy Rice was here, it got in between all the security vehicles that were surrounding Jack and her.

Why not ask HRH for some of that funny money she gives out. Funny how she isn't being given a tour of Whalley Range, Bastwell, Little Harwood or Audley I wonder why that is?

Did you know that the Venky's are in town for the occasion too? Yeh, they'll turn up at Ewood for Her Maj, but not for the Rovers! Wouldn't surprise me if Shebby Singh appears as the genie in the lamp either. It really breaks my heart to see that boardroom & balcony empty on match-days. The owners non-attendance must be some kind of record in the Football League?

Is anyone excited about the queen coming to town?, not a single person I have spoken to has expressed any interest in what will be a waste of money and police resources. This visit will require officers to man cordons, specialist firearms officers ,traffic officers, Special Branch detectives ,search teams and explosive detection dogs.

I thought the same, until somebody told me that Prince Philip is coming too.
Given his propensity for making a right royal gaffe at times, whom could blame HRH for keeping him away from there.
I could imagine him saying to people, 'You don't look local, have you come far to see us?' Lord love him, daft as a brush, but Philip, is my favourite Royal.

Oh, and by the way...
If anyone wants to wave the national flag of Pakistan, on the day, I won't be offended in the least, in fact, I'd honestly welcome it. And for those that don't know the why, I'll explain...
Once over, many many years ago, HRH, was Queen Regnant of Pakistan and after independence, the country remains, by choice, in the group of Commonwealth countries. So only the utterly ignorant could find offence, in someone waving a Commonwealth flag, innit.

"I say, Lillibet", which is what Prince Philip calls our Queen, "look how far them beggars have travelled, just to give us a wave as we go by! Shame we can't stop to greet them."

Oh NO, No, no.. they're not Germans.
They changed their family name to Windsor, in 1917, I think, as people thought that Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, sounded a bit Germanic.
Philip gave up his Glucksburg titles, of Princes of Denmark and Greece, in 1947 before marrying the Queen, or Princess Elizabeth, as she was then, in 1948. Which, ironically, gave him his titles back, as she has a right to rule in both Denmark and Greece, through her bloodlines.
