Blackburn homes to be built in just 48 hours
FOUR factory-built ‘instant’ homes will be put up in Blackburn in just 48 hours later this month.
The steel-framed, brick-fascias and semi-detached properties will be first of their kind in the country when they appear in Monmouth Road.
Commissioned by social housing firm Twin Valley Homes, they were constructed at manufacturer Easybase Home Ltd’s factory in the town. B Originally ordered last May, the plan was to have them ready for occupation that autumn.
After nine months of teething problems, construction is now almost complete and they will be removed from the Whitebirk Industrial Estate factory and transported in sections on flatbed trucks to the site on April 16 and 17. Despite the delay, the social housing organisation is so pleased it has discussed further co-operation and Easybase have several other customers in the pipeline. Managing director Ian Chew said: “It's been a long time in the development stages and with all our hard work it's nice to see our pilot project coming to fruition.
“It's been a roller coaster ride and, with the support of Simon Kerr from Twin Valley, we have finally got to the finish line.
“It's an exciting prospect to know that Easybase Home has delivered a ‘first in its kind project’ on it's doorstep.”
Each home comes in two pieces, ground floor and upper floor/roof, which are slotted together on-site.
They include fitted kitchens and bathrooms, double glazing, energy-efficient boilers and insulation. Twin Valley Homes will make them available for rent and they will be ready to move into this summer.
The Shadsworth site is being prepared with fencing, driveways and lawned gardens for the delivery.
The houses will be greeted at Monmouth Road by a crane which will locate the lower unit into position so the team can secure it to the foundations.
Mr Chew added that the next round of homes would take just a few weeks to build and deliver now the development is complete and the process tried and tested.
BThe firm was founded seven years ago in Bacup by Mr Chew. It began specialising in conservatories, garden rooms and modular buildings, moving to Blackburn in 2013.
