A DARWEN councillor has called on bosses at a firm to include the name of the town in its marketing.

Coun Karimeh Foster spoke after she visited Herbert Parkinson in Monton Road last week.

The firm, which supplies textile products to John Lewis, has the words ‘Made in Lancashire’ on its logo. But Coun Foster said: “It should say ‘Darwen, Lancashire’.”

Coun Foster said she had been very impressed with the firm during her visit to look at plans for expansion that will create 30 jobs.

She said: “This was the first time I have been inside the place and I was astonished at how big it was and the fact that they do the whole weaving process.

“I did not realise how much goes on there and this is all happening in Darwen.

“It made me proud that we have got quality items being made in Darwen and going all over the world.”

But Coun Foster said the company should be more vocal about where it is.

She said: “We need all the publicity we can get so the whole world gets to know that Darwen exists and that we can make these items for the whole world to enjoy.”
