AN AVID trials bike rider has already raised more than £1,100 for a planned charity bike ride – using as many unsurfaced road as possible Graham Lampkin, 62, has chosen to raise money for Cancer Research and will be riding his classic motorbike to Lerwick in Scotland’s Shetland Isles.

This winter, Graham, a member of the Red Rose Classic Motorcycle Club, has made some sensible modifications to his 1959 Royal Enfield trials bike – including a larger petrol tank and more comfortable saddle!

“I’ve got two friends who will be going with me, Frank Anderton and Les Humphries.

“Frank will be on his BSA B40, and Les has built a Tiger Cub mainly from spares he already had, plus he has spent a further £20.

“One of them will ride with me, while the other drives his van as back up.

“The ferry and accommodation on Shetland are booked. The guys plan to leave on Tuesday 3rd June from Watery Lane in Colne, spend the 7th to 10th on Shetland & return by the 13th June. Fingers crossed.

“Ex works BSA rider, European and British Champion, Arthur Lampkin has endorsed the trip and wished us all good luck.

“The route in England has provisionally been planned, and I have been busy talking to the Forestry Commission in Scotland about using their forest tracks.
