A POPULAR town centre pub which is undergoing refurbishment is to have its own bespoke beer on offer when it re-opens.

The Bridgewater, in Church Street, Darwen, closed last week ahead of a £230,000 makeover.

And as part of the facelift, Burnley brewery Moorhouse’s will provide the bar with its own special ale.

The beer, called Industry in acknowledgement of the town’s industrial heritage, will be one of a large selection of hand-pulled ales on offer.

Moorhouse’s will blend two of its existing brews, Premier Bitter and Pendle Witches Brew, to produce the one-off four per cent special beer.

It will be complete with its own specially-designed pump clip, featuring the iconic India Mill and a cotton-making mach- ine.

The former Palladium cin-ema, which was turned into a pub in 2006, will launch a new food menu, and increase the number of cask ale pumps.

In addition, the refurbish-ment will create two new jobs at the pub once it re-opens next Wednesday.

General manager Adam Hulme and his team will host a reception on the Wednesday, from 5pm, with complimentary cham-pagne and canapes for VIP guests.

Joining them for the evening will be mayor of Darwen Town Council Eileen Entwistle.

Mr Hulme said: “There is a lot of anticipation in the town about the pub’s refurbishment and it certainly won’t disappoint.

“Everything that our cust-omers love about the pub, its great food and drinks choice, brilliant community spirit, fun vibrant party nights, and top sports viewing facilities are here to stay, but extras are now even better.

“We are particularly excited about the new dishes being introduced on the menu, cock-tail choices, and added variety of cask ales.

“The Bridgewater has always been the go-to pub in the area for its loyal customers and, with its new look, we hope to attract more new customers to enjoy what it has to offer.”
