POLICE are investigating whether a man found hanged in woodland between Nelson and Brierfield was spoken to by officers hours earlier.
Police were called to woodland at Hard Platts, off Manchester Road, at around 3pm on Tuesday, after reports that a dog walker had discovered a body in the area.

They found the body of a man in his 20s, believed to be from Nelson but of Eastern European origin.
A crew from Nelson fire station was also called to help with the recovery of the body.
The facts have been reported to the coroner and an inquest will be opened in due course.
Police are now investigating whether it was the same man who was spoken to by officers on a bridge near the M65 earlier the same day.
On Tuesday morning, police were called to a bridge over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in the Reedyford area, next to the motorway, following reports that the man was standing on the bridge. The motorway was closed for 15 minutes in both directions while officers talked to the man and took him back home.
If it is established that it was the same man who was spoken to, then because police had had contact with him within 48 hours of his death the case would automatically be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
