TEENAGER James Hutchinson is used to making people doubt what they have seen.

But the young magician from Cliviger couldn’t believe his own eyes when he bumped into his hero at a trade show.

The Unity College pupil, who uses the stage name Dynamite, ended up swapping tips with his idol – television superstar magician Dynamo.

The pair met not once, but twice, at the Blackpool Magic Convention, held at the Blackpool Magicians’ Theatre Club last month.

James, 14, has regular gigs amazing punters at Burnley FC and Nino’s restaurant in Cliviger, and said he was ‘thrilled’ to meet one of the magicians that inspired him. He said: “We just talked about magic tricks. He didn’t have time to show me any unfortunately.

“I think my favourite trick is one I learnt from Dynamo, where a card flicks out of the deck, so it was amazing to meet him.”

James also met up with street magician Gerry Sim – the man who first got him interested in magic when their paths crossed at a service station almost two years ago.

James’s dad, industrial chemist Richard, said the pair had kept in touch.

He said: “The magicians are all very good at taking the time to talk to the younger ones and sharing tips with each other.

“They wouldn’t tell me any secrets though!”

James got a deck of cards signed by Dynamo, and hopes to one day emulate the success of the Bradford-born trickster.

Richard said: “I don’t think he’s going to give it up. He’s into everything to do with magic.

“He will always do it, whether or not he makes a career out of it we’ll have to wait and see.”
