‘Curiosity Shop’ opens in Blackburn

Blackburn Citizen: Nicola with some of the items from her shop Nicola with some of the items from her shop

A ‘Curiosity Shop’ is now open in Blackburn town centre.

The unique shop showcases and sells the work of Great Harwood artist Nicola Hebson, whose stuffed animals have proved popular among locals and the art world alike.

Nicola, 22, has been helped by the Blackburn is Open scheme to open the shop in King William Street.

It is full of Nicola’s ethical taxidermy, art, jewellery and other oddities, and she says that visiting it will be like ‘walking into her brain’.

Excited Nicola said: “I hope to attract people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe. The shop will be a work in progress and I hope for it to get more magical as time goes on.”

Well done to Nicola for setting up a shop of something that demonstrates a keen interest she cares about, wish all the best of luck to her.

An example of young creative talent in our town.

Well done Nicola and best of luck, we need more budding young entrepreneur like Nicola to revive the town centre's economy. Labour controlled council killed off many shops because lack free parking .Labour are killing more shops in Darwen Street ,Labour must listen to the Government to relax parking rules in town centre allow 30 minutes free parking in some area of the town centre to boost the economy of Blackburn .Many of our shops are empty and even in the Mall shopping centre there are many shop units empty .Blackburn is one of worst town in country for empty shop units .We won't get many shoppers coming to town with so many empty shops and lack of free parking spaces.

Dear Nicola,
If I bring you next door's cat, is there any chance of you stuffing and mounting it. If it can be done, with a surprised expression on it's face, all the better, as it's not dead yet.

@whirlingdervish,
Your witty comment is utterly wasted on the readers here but brought tears to my eyes, laughing at it.
