MORE than 2,000 people have applied to join the apprenticeships programme at BAE Systems’ sites in Lancashire.

The company’s Military Air and Information (MAI) business has received 2,153 applications for 94 positions at sites in Warton and Samlesbury, starting in September.

Head of early careers Andy Bloor said the number of applications was almost 1,000 more than the company had received in 2013.

He said: “The response has been fantastic and underlines the growing desire for people looking to learn through apprenticeships.

“We are keen to invest in the future of the business, and therefore it’s vital that we continue to recruit growing numbers of bright, motivated individuals.

“Their work will be complemented by an excellent training and development programme and the opportunity to work for one of the UK’s most innovative and respected companies.”
