A GROUP of women have embarked on a huge fundraising drive in memory of a friend who died from cancer last month.

Darwen nursery nurse Sarah Glover, 36, died from cervical cancer at East Lancashire Hospice in February.

While Sarah was ill several of her friends took part in Dryathlon, raising around £2,000 for cancer research, and the fundraising has continued after her death.

The day after Sarah died, her friend Louise Shackleton set up a justgiving page, hoping to raise £500 for East Lancashire Hospice, but already it has received more than £2,500 in donations.

Now a group of 12 friends, who have dubbed themselves ‘Sarah’s Angel’s’ are spending a year raising as much money as they can in her memory.

One of the ‘Angels’, Michelle Clarke, is hoping to raise £2,000 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, where Sarah was treated, with a charity night at Darwen Football Club on Friday night.

The night will feature an auction, a raffle, games, a hot supper, and music from DJ Chris Clarke and band The Moo Fighters.

Michelle said: “I was with Sarah at her diagnosis and saw her treatment through.

“Sarah spent a lot of time at Rosemere Cancer Foundation, she went there every day for a period of six to eight weeks and had her chemotherapy and radiotherapy there.

“It’s an absolutely amazing place, so positive, even though it’s full of seriously ill people.

“We spent so much time there, and we always had a giggle.”

Dan Hill, area fundraising co-ordinator for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: “Michelle and her friends have had a very emotional time recently, seeing their close friend Sarah lose her brave battle with cancer. But, they have somehow managed to find the strength to throw themselves into fundraising in memory of Sarah and in support of her family. We are very grateful for their support, which will make a real difference to cancer patients in Lancashire and South Cumbria.”
