East Lancashire pole dancers in world record bid

POLE dancers in Clitheroe joined hundreds worldwide as they tried to break the world record for pole dancing simultaneously in multiple locations.

The International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF) launched the attempt, with studios in Australia, the US, South Africa, China, and Holland taking part.

Among them were athletes from the Pole and Aerial Arts Studio, in The Aerial Lounge, Clitheroe, who joined in the attempt to raise cash for Pancreatic Cancer UK, in memory of Clitheroe doctor Michael Barsby, who died from the disease last year.

Mayor of Clitheroe, Coun Kevin Horkin, also attended to act as a witness for the attempt.

The existing record was set in 2006, and saw 206 people dancing in 26 locations.

A spokeswoman for the IPSF said although it wouldn’t know for sure for a couple of months, she was almost certain the record has been broken.

She said: “We had more than 100 locations taking part this time, so I think there were at least 700 people involved.”
