STACEY Kemp didn’t have the nervous wait with most of her fellow British winter Olympians when the squad was selected last week.

The Chorley figure skating ace had already assured herself of a ticket to Russia and Kemp, 25, together with partner David King, will compete for her country in the pairs and team competition in Sochi.

It will be her second Olympics, having finished 16th in Vancouver four years ago.

Kemp, a former Blackburn College student, first took up the sport at Blackburn Ice Arena after her grandfather, Tom Johnson, encouraged her to get involved in the sport.

“My grandad, along with my nanna, took me to Blackburn three times a weeks,” said Kemp. “My grandad used to stand at the side of the ice to motivate me and he would praise everything I did.”

Kemp teamed up with King in 2003 and they have since won eight national titles.
