HUNDREDS of people took part in an annual parade in Blackburn to celebrate the prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

Members from the Jamia Ghosia Mosque, in Chester Street, Blackburn, took to the streets despite heavy rain for the celebration.

They set off from the Mosque at midday yesterday, and the procession went along Audley Range, Queens Park Road, Queens Road, Lincoln Road, St Clements Street, Temple Drive, Cherry Street, Furthergate and Copy Nook.

In total the procession lasted around an hour and a half.

Other events have taken place to celebrate the prophet’s birthday this month, with 5,000 people marching in Nelson on January 12 in the biggest parade in the area.
