Burnley mourn loss of club stalwart Bellamy

Blackburn Citizen: Burnley mourn loss of club stalwart Bellamy Burnley mourn loss of club stalwart Bellamy

BURNLEY FC stalwart Arthur Bellamy has died, aged 71.

Bellamy spent 14 years with the club as a player, after arriving as a 15-year-old from the north east.

He signed a professional contract a year later and broke into the side in 1963 following the departure of Jimmy McIlroy.

Bellamy, an inside-forward, made his First Division debut at Maine Road in a 5-2 win over Manchester City, topping the occasion off with the Clarets’ fifth goal.

After 10 seasons in the first team, and 250 appearances, Bellamy joined Third Division Chesterfield in 1971, and was an almost ever-present during his time with the Spireites.

Bellamy returned to Burnley following his release in 1976, which marked the end of his football career.

He bought a milk round in the town, and later a chip shop, before returning to the Turf Moor staff as ‘B’ team coach in 1979.

He continued to serve the club until retirement, having a spell as Brian Miller’s assistant manager before going on to become head groundsman. Bellamy passed away peacefully at Pendleside Hospice this morning.

R.I.P. Condolences to his family from a Rovers fan. Pity Burnley fans cant comment on the loss of a good Burnley player instead of spending their days infesting the Rovers pages.

We've just walked in and got the news. Please tell me how I could have posted before you did? Most people are working (yes, even in Burnley) and can't just log on as they wish.

Your RIP must surely be welcomed by Burnley fans and possibly Arthur Bellamy's family too. The rest of what you write lets you down very badly as a person.

Arthur Bellamy. What a lovely guy and such a versatile and committed player. Imagine what sort of a fee he would have commanded in this day and age.

We all wish the family of Arthur our deepest condolences.fine ma and servant to Burnley.
Your comment about infestation is totally out of order and disrespectful. In any case these are open forums and anyone can comment and are invited to do so. Check out Burnley stories sometime.

" if the Lancashire Telegraph has any sense, they would block the serial idiots who spoil threads by being abusive". then go on the Rovers pages and make the same comments to all the abusive Burnley fans(I use that word loosely) who spend all day abusing everything Rovers. RobH2O just for the record, I also work and Burnley idiots were on Rovers pages before I was on here.

Any chance you can show some respect and not air your petty grievances on this thread about the death of a Burnley legend?

Sleep well Arthur, I know these last few years have been hard for you, Maureen and the family.

So sad to lose a loved one no matter who you are and hurts more if you are a nice man with a nice family.

Maureen slap the lippy on, show that lovely smile and remember all the happy years
