Blackburn Citizen: Fire crews search the water Fire crews search the water

EMERGENCY services were called after reports an ‘intoxicated’ man jumped into the canal.

Crews were called to Bolton Road, Blackburn, at around 1.30pm yesterday after a call saying that the man, named locally as Dez, had gone into the water near the Raj restaurant.

A boat crew from Preston and water rescue specialists from Nelson were drafted in.

After around an hour of searching, police found the man safe and well at home.

Firefighters Lee Cook said: “A guy reported his friend, who he had been drinking with all morning, opted to go in the canal."

Something needs to be done to improve this stretch of canal. I often walk from Feniscowles to Blackburn and between the lock opposite the old infirmary all the way to the bridge at the Asda you're confronted with empty beer/cider cans and bottles and often the benches are occupied with the above mentioned pi55heads who without fail take the opportunity when you pass them ask for money/cigarettes etc etc. can be quite intimidating!
Blackburn - what a sh1thole it's become

Can't blame the Muslims for this one. Lol. Very true comments though. Blackburn is not as clean and safe as it once used to be. Alcohol and drugs abuse is on the rise which leads to higher crime rates.

Blackburn used to be a proud town with proud traditions but like one of the posts pointed out it has become a bit of an embarrassment with many drug users and alcoholics,,,don,t get me wrong we all know these minorities have always been there its just the numbers have increased dramatically over the past few decades and the costs to the hard working tax payers must be astronomical .
