OVERNIGHT repairs to the A56 around Accrington will start in March, with delays expected.

The work, which officials said will tackle wear and tear along sections of the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A56, between its junctions with the M65 and Rising Bridge.

It is due to start on Monday, March 3, and should be completed by Sunday, March 23.

The work, which includes filling potholes, resurfacing and replacing kerb stones and road studs, will be done in four short phases using overnight carriageway closures along one short section of the route at any one time.

Work will take place between 10pm and 5am.

Highways Agency project sponsor Jakub Malaj said: “During carriageway closures, clearly-signed diversions will be in place, “But we encourage drivers to leave a little bit of extra time for journeys as diversion routes will add a little bit of time to journeys.”
