Parents in Blackburn with Darwen reminded not to book holidays in term-time

AN education official has asked Blackburn with Darwen parents to avoid booking holidays in term.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s director of schools and education Lisa Bibby has written to parents within the local authority to ask for their cooperation.

Ms Bibby spoke out after concerns were raised nationally that children are being taken out of school to go on family holidays in term-time.

In her letter distributed by schools she said: “Children’s absence from school disrupts learning and undermines educational attainment and achievement.

“I would ask you to bear in mind that there is no automatic right to any leave of absence for holidays in term-time.

“The government’s advice to parents is that holidays should be taken when the school is closed.

“Changes in government regulations mean headteachers will no longer be able to grant any leave of absence during term-time unless there are specific exceptional circumstances.”

Ok fair enough so long as this applies to the Asians and the eastern Europeans who take many weeks off to visit there home countries and that the government, councils or whoever it is, to contact the travel companies to place caps on prices, people like myself work and cannot afford silly prices that these companies charge, until these rules are in place then we will all choose to book our holidays out of season, if everyone did this then what is the government going to do fine thousands of people, I would like to see that.

what an hideous comment this is by the education of Blackburn when they have just granted wensley fold primary school and extra week off in October so many Asian families can visit there homeland since they claim its to hot in the summer to visit, well its 33 degrees in Islamabad in octocber on average just like its that heat in spain, but what they really want is cheaper flights and guess what the council have bent over backwards to give them what they want, its a simple case of one rule for and one rule for another, but I for one will be taking my kids on holiday during term time and the council can take me to court all they like to TRY and fine me but it wont materialise

Id rather pay the fine of £60 per week then an extra£2000 during the school holidays to take my children away. Children are losing out here at visiting other countries is this not educational???? Also why are teacher training days taking during school term and when the teachers strike as well, one rule for one another rule for another, its alright for the so called Mps who can afford to go away when ever they feel like it. And taking ten days off for a holiday does not effect attainment of those who already have a good attendance record above 85% it is those that are constantly not attending school!!!!! Bout time this government got there facts and figures right!!!!
