STUDENTS from Accrington Academy have been creating a forest camp in a small area at their school.
The year nine and 10 students have been working with the Prospects Foundation on a fire circle, shelter building, cooking over a fire, making a sign for the camp, using tools, and whittling.
The activities were part of a Forest School programme.
Gemma Tomlinson, nature walks project officer and a qualified forest schools practitioner, said: “The involvement of the students in these activities will help them to develop holistically by learning how to manage risk, explore creativity, increase confidence and improve self awareness, empathy and communication skills.
“With sessions taking place over a longer period of time, children are able to become comfortable with an alternative learning environment, to embrace it and really get the most out of their forest school experience.”
