FED-up residents in an Oswaldtwistle street have signed a petition calling on the council to take action on a derelict house.

The Lancashire Telegraph reported earlier this week how privately-owned 31 Frederick Street was causing problems for a family living next door to the empty property.

Simone Cleary, who lives with her husband Jonathan and their 15-month-old son, Lucas, said: “Half of an upstairs window was hanging off. It was removed by the council but the window was not boarded up.

“So in all this bad weather, I’ve had to listen to doors slamming all through the night, not to mention the disturbance and upset to my son.”

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said a petition was circulated in a bid to get the council to take notice.

She said: “The house is not rentable. It’s an eyesore.”

The owner of the end terrace house will be told to repair the roof, windows, door, and to remove waste at the property, the council said.

Deputer leader of Hyndburn Council, Clare Pritchard, said the owner had been served enforcement orders.
