Teachers in East Lancashire suffering from 'falling morale'

UNION leaders have spoken out after a survey revealed teachers are experiencing ‘falling morale’.

The National Union of Teachers commissioned of teachers in England and Wales.

Lancashire representative and Blackburn with Darwen secretary of the union, Simon Jones, said teachers were now less likely to stay in the profession.

Three quarters of teachers said their morale had declined since the last general election. It also found that 52 per cent of teachers were less likely to stay in the profession as a result of changes to teacher’s pay and pensions.

Mr Jones said: “A frequent concern cited by teachers is that they are required to spend too much of their working time on bureaucratic tasks.”
