HE is famous for tackling loan sharks on his Bank of Dave show, but Pendle businessman Dave Fishwick came face to face with different type of predator at the new Aquascope store in Clayton-le-Moors - blacktip reef sharks.

Aquascope featured on the hit Channel Four series 18 months ago when owner Steve Punchard was granted a loan to help set up his fishy business.

The aquatic centre in Great Harwood ran alongside Cooper’s Critters that sells small animals and reptiles as well as hosting unique animal themed children’s parties and activities.

But as the two businesses grew, so did the sharks and it became clear that Steve and his fishy friends would need new premises.

Saturday’s open day at the new Aquascope and Cooper’s Critters in Burnley Road saw the unveiling of their new and improved shark tank and a jungle themed party room.

Dave said: “It’s fantastic to see Aquascope going from strength to strength and I think it benefits the local area to be able to come to somewhere to see the wide variety of animals here.

“This venture is really something to be proud of and for me, I really get a kick out of it.

“When you see someone that’s been given a loan and taken it as far as they can and made a success such as this, I really feel privileged to have been involved.

Steve said: “Dave’s been really good to us and I’ve just finished repaying my loan. Things couldn’t have gone better for us and we are really pleased with our new location.

“Dave inspired us to get sharks as he was always talking about getting something unique.”
