TWO of East Lancashire’s biggest companies have backed youngsters at Blackburn’s £6million Youth Zone.

Aerospace giant BAE Systems, and property, engineering and regulatory services provider Capita have signed up to become patrons at the Youth Zone, in Jubilee Street.

BAE Systems, which has sites at Samlesbury and Warton, have backed the Youth Zone with financial support.

Paul Earnshaw, who is head of communications at BAE, said: “BAE Systems is always looking for ways in which we can engage with, and help inspire, young people.

“Our involvement with the Youth Zone is an excellent example of our commitment to investing in the workforce of the future. The Youth Zone and BAE Systems share a common interest: Supporting and inspiring young people to realise and reach their potential.”

Regional director at Capita, Ian Richardson, said: “As a FTSE 100 company with a local heart in Blackburn with Darwen, we are pleased to support such a great organisation who are actively investing in the future of our community – young people.”

The head of business development at Blackburn Youth Zone, Julia Wright, said: “BAE Systems have had the foresight to invest in the future employees of the area. We are delighted to have them on board as patrons. The Youth Zone is also delighted to welcome Capita to the patron ‘family’.”

The Lancashire Telegraph is also aiming to raise £60,000 to train 100 young leaders to help improve Blackburn with Darwen.
