LANCASHIRE’S Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) service is reminding people to ensure they don’t end up with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or unintended pregnancy this Christmas.

The service advise that while the festive season is a time for socialising and maybe getting a kiss under the mistletoe, alcohol can often lower inhibitions meaning that people are more likely to engage in unplanned sex.

Sue Capstick, clinical business manager for sexual health at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust said: “Alcohol can cause you to do things you wouldn’t normally do and that’s why it’s important to think ahead to prevent any regrets later.

“By carrying condoms, being aware of what to do and who to call, people can protect themselves from a sexually transmitted infection or unwanted pregnancy.

“If you use a daily method of contraception such as the pill, remember to make sure you have enough for over the Christmas period.”

The service has also launched a new telephone number for anyone wishing to book an appointment with the service.
