A MAN wants help to protect his home after a car crashed through his garden wall - for the fifth time.

Imtiyaz Jalal was looking out of an upstairs window at his Accrington Road home in Blackburn at around 3.35pm on Thursday, when he saw a BMW 320 plough through the wall.

The 30-year-old, who lives with his family, said: “This is the fifth time this has happened over the years.

“We want some railings at the junction.

“My next door neighbour’s kids were playing in the front garden but, luckily, they had just gone inside.

“Bricks went everywhere and they could have hit somebody.

“I will be speaking to my councillor because it’s not the first time. We have had all sorts in the front yard - taxis, buses and cars.”

Mr Jalal said he had taken the insurance details of the BMW driver.

He said: “I opened the window and asked if everybody was okay, and then I came downstairs to make sure the people inside were all right.

“A girl had hurt her hand so I helped her, and I made coffee for the man. He said it was his birthday and he had only just bought the car.”

A male driver and his teenage daughter were in the car, although neither were seriously hurt.

A police spokesman confirmed officers attended the scene.

She said: “The road was not blocked because the car was on the pavement. There were no major injuries, and nobody was arrested.

“The highway authority was called to clear up oil and petrol, and it was all clear by 5pm.”

Thursday’s accident came less than 24 hours after a three-car crash at the junction of Accrington Road and Didsbury Street, in which four people suffered minor injuries.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s highways network manager, Stuart Scott, said: “If anyone has any concerns about traffic in the area, they can contact the council, and we can look at any requests made.”
