THE results of Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Flood Watch survey in Darwen have been revealed.

Aimed at finding out how prepared residents were for potential floods, the survey asked them about steps they had taken to reduce potential damage to their properties and who they would call in the event of a flood.

It found that 13 per cent of those living in flood-risk areas of Darwen were signed up to receive flood warnings and more than 30 per cent were willing to form a flood group.

To date, Flood Watch has spoken to about 450 Darreners when surveying door-to-door and during the drop-in surgeries that took place throughout November.

Of those, 72 per cent wrongly believed the council was responsible for managing flood risk.

Flood Watch was unveiled earlier this year on the anniversary of the major flash floods that hit the borough last year and was paid for by a government grant.

Marsh House councillor Tom Evans, lead member for regeneration at Blackburn with Darwen Council, said: “Flood Watch officers are on hand to advise residents on steps they can take to be as prepared as possible for any potential future floods.”

If anyone sees a blocked drain, flooded gully or flash flooding, they should report it by calling 01254 585921.
