THOSE wishing to find out about health can get down to monthly events at Blackburn Central Library.

Health trainers and library staff have teamed up to hold monthly health events where information about everything from stopping smoking to NHS health checks will be available.

Also on offer is the innovative ‘books on prescription’ scheme, which loans out self-help books.

There are also opportunities to sign up for a Beez card, which is available to anyone who lives or works in Blackburn with Darwen or has a Blackburn with Darwen GP, and gives access to leisure centres and leisure facilities across the borough, including activities as part of the re:fresh free leisure scheme.

The next health event takes place on Friday, December 20 in meeting room 1 at the library, from 10am to 2pm.

Councillor Damian Talbot, executive member for leisure and culture, said: “Blackburn Library is right in the middle of town, with lots of people coming in to borrow books, use computers and access courses, so it’s great that we’re now able to offer even more to residents with these monthly health events.”

Coun Mohammed Khan, executive member for health and adult social care, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people who in the town centre to pop in and find out more about health services and how to stay healthy and I hope lots of people will go along.”
