YOUNG cancer battler Sam Shaw appears to be responding well to specialist treatment in America. The four-year-old, from Hoddlesden, is in Philadelphia receiving immunotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma in January.

His plight captured the hearts of people across East Lancashire and beyond, who raised the £250,000 needed to send him for the treatment which is not available on the NHS.

Mum Christine said: “Sam has done really well on this first part of the second cycle of treatment.

“He has been his usual chatty, funny, cheeky little self throughout the four day treatment. If it wasn't for the pole with all the medicine pumps following him round, you wouldn't know he was on any meds.”

She is concerned about Sam’s weight loss however, and hopes he can maintain his current weight through the next spell of treatment which will cover a period of four days.
