Concerns are raised over places
3:48pm Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
AN MP has raised concern about providing enough training and education places for young people.
Hyndburn MP Graham Jones said he was concerned that with the participation age being raised to 18, that more places should be provided.
Mr Jones has written to the Department of Education over concerns there are not enough places in education, training and in apprenticeships.
After receiving information that local authorities are to report any shortages, Mr Jones called for a ‘pre-emptive’ approach.
He said: “The intention of the policy is a good one, however it involves a slow process of chasing up local authorities to ensure that vulnerable young people are in education or training.
“If there is not pre-emptive and active work to get the minority who do not continue in education, training or an apprenticeship to do so, then the RPA policy is not worth the paper it is printed on.”
