Free weight-loss management scheme in Hyndburn is a success
1:47pm Tuesday 8th October 2013 in News
A FREE weight management programme launched in Hyndburn has been hailed a success.
The Food for Thought scheme offers a non-diet approach to healthy eating, staying active, and losing weight.
It aims to help locals set achievable goals to eat more healthily, and identify enjoyable ways to stay active.
Residents have been urged to sign up for the scheme after it was revealed more than a quarter of adults in Hyndburn are classed as obese, and at a higher risk of developing health problems, such as diabetes, and heart disease.
Angela Brown, 36, of Great Harwood, lost three stone since starting the programme six months ago.
She said: “My whole attitude to food and eating has changed. I really enjoyed the weekly meetings. I eat a far healthier, balanced diet and exercise more, and walk, instead of using the car quite so much. I’ve even got a bike.”
The sessions run at different times, during the day and on an evening, in Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington, and Great Harwood. For more details, call 01254 283340.
